Aluminum Series Comparison
The 1000 series, 3000 series and 5000 series are the most common and widely used types of aluminum plates. They have significantly different properties due to the differences in their main alloying elements.
1000 Series Aluminum Sheets (Pure Aluminum)
Composition and Properties: Made of industrial pure aluminum with at least 99.00% aluminum content, retaining essential aluminum properties.
Advantages: Excellent conductivity and heat conductivity, superior corrosion resistance with dense Al₂O₃ protective film, high plasticity for further processing, soft texture and shiny appearance.
Disadvantages: Lowest strength and hardness, prone to deformation, not suitable for structural components.
Common Grades: 1060 (99.6% aluminum), 1050 (99.5% aluminum), 1100 (99.0% aluminum with slightly higher strength).
Applications: Conductive materials (transformer coils, capacitors), heat-conducting materials (heat sinks, cookware), deep drawing products, decorative materials, and building panels.
3000 Series Aluminum Plates (Aluminum-Manganese Alloy)
Composition and Properties: Main alloying element is manganese (1.0-1.5%), providing increased strength while maintaining corrosion resistance.
Advantages: 20% higher strength than 1 series, excellent corrosion resistance, good processing properties, stable performance at high temperatures.
Disadvantages: Not suitable for high-stress structural components.
Common Grades: 3003 (classic aluminum-manganese alloy), 3004/3005 (higher strength with increased magnesium).
Applications: Kitchenware and household appliances, can materials, construction applications, vehicle interiors, and sheet metal processing.
5000 Series Aluminum Sheets (Aluminum-Magnesium Alloy)
Composition and Properties: Main alloying element is magnesium (3-5%), providing significantly higher strength.
Advantages: High strength (twice or more than 1-series), excellent corrosion resistance in marine environments, superior weldability, good processing performance.
Disadvantages: Higher cost compared to other series.
Common Grades: 5052 (balanced strength and formability), 5083 (high strength for structural components), 5754 (transportation applications).
Applications: Maritime and shipping, vehicle manufacturing, pressure vessels, military uses, high-end electronics, and building formwork.
